FebClasses
Do you ever wonder why you learn certain information that you know you will never use again and has no relevance to what you will be doing in the future? Ugh. That is how I feel right now at the empo trying to read the political and sociological ideas of French philosopher Michel Foucault. Maybe its just me, but political theory classes are SO dry and boring to me. I feel like my brain is going to explode and frankly, I don’t care to read about different theorists ideas about a social contract theory b/w citizens and the state. Modern political theory isn’t as bad, but reading this stuff is like nails on a chalkboard and I’m really getting tempted to just throw my book away.
Speaking of irrelevant stuff that you’ll never use again, lets talk about Logic Games on the LSAT (Law School Admission Test). Why does the LSAT have a 35 minute section on Logic Games? I’m sorry bout your ability to do a problem like the following: If X is before E and Y is before X and B can’t be next to X make a list of all possible sequences. Ok No. I’m sorry but being able to solve problems like that has NO significance to your capabilities or arguing and being a lawyer. And it is ridiculous because there are four sections that count on the LSAT (there are 5 sections but 1 is experimental), and logic games constitute an entire section. Needless to say if you bomb this section but do very well on the other sections (Logical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension) you still will not get a very good score. Maybe I am just bitter because this happened to me on the September 2009 LSAT haha. If I didn’t bomb logic games, I would have had an almost near perfect score. for those of you who know me, I am VERY good at arguing and manipulating situations to get my way, key traits of a lawyer. Too bad law school admissions don’t take that into consideration. Or the fact that I have gotten A’s in every single law class I have taken at Tech (Business Law, International Law, Constitutional Law: Structures and Relations, Constitutional Law: Civil and Political Rights). I think the whole system is flawed and it really bothers me. Your admission to law school is almost always dependent on your LSAT score. Schools will ALWAYS take someone with a high LSAT score with a low GPA versus someone with an extremely high GPA and involvement in campus activities and organizations with a low LSAT score. Unfortunately this is the way it is! Don’t get me wrong, I still got a good score (in the 80th percentile) but those stupid logic games really messed me up. And I know I won’t be able to get into Georgetown or even Mason with my score. Some smaller schools have been sending me emails offering scholarships and what not but I’ve already started taking graduate classes this semester to apply to my Masters in Public and International Affiars at Tech. I guess I could study logic games over and over again until I master them and then retake the LSAT one last time. Who knows. Sorry for putting you through one of my infamous long venting sessions:)

For those of you who took the June 09 LSAT, you’ll appreciate that picture (in reference to the horrid dinosaur logic game) and the link to the explanation (which of course the game seems easy once it is explained by someone else)

FebSketchy
At the end of the day, I just want to touch on sketchy people. You MAY or may not think you are cool, or being slick, or think you are getting away with being sketch. BUT in the end, your sketchiness comes out. That is all:) Till tomorrow.
PS: Congrats VT Basketball on Beating UNC!! Sorry Bry ;)

FebSaying Sorry, and Meaning It.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. When and how to say sorry. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says sorry and clearly doesn’t mean it. To me the only way to mean your sorry is to show it, prove it, don’t do it again, whatever. I’ve always been a fan of “actions speak louder than words” because words don’t mean anything unless you can back them up with your behavior. And it really bothers me when people claim they are genuinely sorry about something…through a text message. Like really, at least pick up the phone or something. Its not difficult. And this post applies to all aspects of one’s life. Family, Friends, Relations, even yourself. Think about it, I know it makes sense:) Just something thats been on my mind!

Feb"
“If things don’t go your way, it can be stressful, painful, and hard, but you don’t always have to be in control. It’s all just a part of the grand scheme of things. Don’t let your emotions cloud your vision. Don’t ever fail to see the bigger picture. You may not understand why things are happening the way they are, but soon enough you’ll know.”
Probably one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received! Thanks Stephanie Litrenta
